The directions of scientific activity of the Archeological Institute in Belgrade, since its establishment in 1947, were largely determined by the development visions of the directors of this institution. The Archeological Institute, the only scientific research institute in the field of archeology in Serbia, was fortunate to have MilojeVasic PhD at its helm for almost a full decade, from the end of 1997 to the beginning of 2007. With the exceptional respect for traditional values in work and human relations, he was extremely open in the scientific work to the application of new technologies, multidisciplinary research and the achievement of results through international cooperation. MilojeVasic was born in 1940 in Belgrade, where he was educated. He graduated in classical archeology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade in 1962. There he had received his master's degree in 1968 and his PhD. in 1972. From 1963 to 1978 he worked in the National Museum in Belgrade, first as... a curator of the Cabinet for Numismatics and Epigraphy, and then of the Collection for Late Antiquity. During that period he specialized in Athens (1964/65) and Frankfurt am Main (1971/72). He started working in the Archeological Institute in Belgrade in 1978, where he has stayed until his retirement in March 2007. In 1994, he was acting director and then, until 1997, president of the Scientific Council of the Institute. He became director of the Archaeological Institute in 1997 and held that position for two terms until his retirement in 2007
