Abstract
The funeral monuments found so far on the territory of Roman Singidunum mention 39 deceased persons. Most came from the families of low-ranking military personnel (strator consularis, strator legati, beneficiarius consularis, beneficiarius tribuni, beneficiarius praefecti, aquilifer imaginifer, signifer, miles), while those in civilian service are mostly identified as decurio. The men and the women mostly died between the ages of 16 to 50. Child mortality seems to have been high (11 children aged from 1 to 6). The situation was probably due to the poor living conditions of the individuals and their families who mostly belonged, as the monuments show, to the lower strata of society, as well as to the generally poor living conditions in Roman Singidunum.
