Nadgrobna stela s kruništem iz Muzeja u Smederevu
Abstract
The paper studies a fragment of a funerary stele kept in the Museum of Smederevo (inv. A-266). Only the upper part of the stele is preserved: the lower part of the lion top, the gable with acroteria, and the upper part of the central field with a relief. Stele topped by lions were not common on the Upper Moesian Limes. The only integrally preserved stele with a lion top is a stele of Marcus Aurelius Bitus from Singidunum. Steles surmounted by lions were particularly popular in Noric and Pannonia. However, the division of fields on the stele is not that common. One group of steles from Dacia has a similar division of fields. Unfortunately, only a fragment of the stele from Smederevo Museum is preserved, which makes it difficult to understand this exceptional stele. We hope that subsequent petrographic analysis of the marble will certainly contribute to a better understanding of this exceptional stele.
