AB - The arrival of Romans to the territory of what is now Serbia was a complex process. In certain aspects, local
population along the Danube was already acquainted to the Roman material culture. Still, many aspects were
completely new to them. In an occupied country and with new inhabitants, local people had to find a way to
survive and adapt themsleves to the new situation. Those who chose to stay, gradually made contacts with the
Romans, initially presumably through trade and supplying. However, those who decided to leave, crossed the
Danube and fled to barbaricum. Their role in what was yet to come was also of great importance both for the

AB - Over the past few decades the interpretation of cultural heritage has
gained importance. The development of new technologies rose exponentially,
opening a row of different possibilities for interpretation, both visual and nar rative. A special place in interpreting cultural heritage is taken by archaeologi cal open-air museums and archaeological parks. Over the past few decades and
in entire Europe, dozens of them have been established. In them, a special kind
of interpretation and/or presentation of cultural heritage takes place, intended
both for the broad public and experts. It is at the same time visual and narrative.
Basically, in such parks, especially this specific kind of knowledge transfer is be ing developed, based on personal and hands-on experience. Although this kind of
interpretation is especially interesting to the younger population, it is of extreme
importance exactly for experts, archaeologists, and archaeology students. In such
a way, it is easier for them to comprehend man in the past and his relation to the
surrounding, materials he used, algorithms he applied, etc. Archaeological open air museums and archaeological parks are usually made in such a manner that
they can fit into the already existing or specially designed landscape. At the same
time, they offer an ideal surrounding for the activities mentioned above. In this
paper, the authors will describe a few archaeological parks and open-air museums,
with special attention dedicated to the kinds of interpretations they offer and to
their target groups.

AB - Viminacium was one of the most important Roman legionary fortresses along the Danube and the capital of the Roman province Moesia Superior. Today it is the archaeological site in Serbia with necropolises considered to be among the largest discovered until today from the Roman period. From 2006, all discovered remains on the site have been presented within Viminacium Archaeological Park. The material and immaterial heritage of the site were presented in accordance with the modern methods in the field of cultural heritage protection, among which the interpretation was one of the most important. Special attention was paid to the popularization of the site which resulted in the growth of the cultural and, specifically, archaeological tourism in Serbia. With promotion of Viminacium in Europe and the world, Roman heritage in Serbia gained the opportunity to be recognized as a part of the global cultural heritage. Finally, the importance of the touristic potentials and the true value of the site have been recognized by the local community whose members are employed in the Park. Every year the touristic capacity of the Park grows, and it is enriched with new structures dedicated to various activities. Following the modern age and digital revolution, the visit to Viminacium Archaeological Park is also possible by virtual tour.

AB - Archaeological research in the area of the City of Požarevac in Serbia has been going on for decades, but it has yielded the greatest results precisely in the territory of Roman Viminacium, while the protection and presentation of the cultural and historical heritage of the area have been largely carried out within this site. The elements that make up the close area of Viminacium, represented by the modern archaeological park, ruling mining industry, small rural settlements, fragmented agricultural fields, and the mighty Danube river, are mutually connected with many forms of intangible heritage. The aim of this chapter is to present this space which unifies the geological landscape and archaeological heritage, through the centuries-old exploitation of natural resources. It is exactly what gives this ever-transforming landscape its unique character and what can be used in future in the presentation of Viminacium Archaeological Park.

It is exactly what gives this ever-transforming landscape its unique character and what can be used in future in the presentation of Viminacium Archaeological Park.",

Iron age pottery from Ukosa, Kruševac district

AB - Upon the meeting point of the rivers West Morava and South Morava lies
the medieval tower of Stalać. About one kilometer to the south of this legendary
tower, another site was discovered – Ukosa. The excavations of this site started in
2009, conducted by the experts from the National Museum in Kruševac. They con firmed that this site was inhabited for almost two millennia – the earliest being the
Iron Age, indicated by pottery discovered in one of the pits in 2012.
While processing pottery from Ukosa, the authors have hoped to find material ev idence of the Celtic movements towards Greece during the early 3rd century BC.
During their work, it turned out that the pottery belongs to the 1st century BC and
if only sporadically, it does possess parallels in this part of Serbia. All of the anal ogies quoted in the paper indicated that the Scordisci were present in many riv er valleys and they obviously found them suitable to move along, although they
always chose to settle down on peaks or plateaus of the strategic importance. A
well-chosen strategic position was an advantage with always growing danger of Ro man raids from Greece, exactly during the 1st century BC.

AB - Over the past year and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire world has witnessed inequalities across borders and societies.
They also include access to archaeological resources, both physical and digital. Both archaeological data creators and users spent
a lot of time working from their homes, away from artefact collections and research data. However, this was the perfect moment to
understand the importance of making data freely and openly available, both nationally and internationally.
This is why the authors of this paper chose to make a selection of data bases from various institutions responsible for preservation
and protection of cultural heritage, in order to understand their policies regarding accessibility and usage of the data they keep.
This will be done by simple visits to various web-sites or data bases. They intend to check on the volume and content, but also
importance of the offered archaeological heritage. In addition, the authors will estimate whether the heritage has adequately been
classified and described and also check whether data is available in foreign languages.
It needs to be seen whether it is possible to access digital objects (documents and the accompanying metadata), whether access
is opened for all users or it requires a certain hierarchy access, what is the policy of usage, reusage and distribution etc. It remains to
be seen whether there are public API or whether it is possible to collect data through API. In case that there is a public API, one needs
to check whether datasets are interoperable or messy, requiring data cleaning.
After having visited a certain number of web-sites, the authors expect to collect enough data to make a satisfactory conclusion
about accessibility and usage of Serbian archaeological data web bases.

AB - In the Republic of Serbia, digitisation of cultural heritage was recognised as a segment of cultural development, while the digitisation process is understood as part of a complex system of managing cultural heritage in institutions of protection, such as museums, institutes for the protection of cultural heritage etc. By focusing on the issue of electronic/digital archaeological heritage management in Serbia's institutes for protection, this article briefly describes the national framework of archaeology in the country and presents some crucial moments in the journey towards digitisation and electronic management of archaeological heritage in Serbia since the 1990s. It also discusses recent efforts by the Ministry of Culture and Information in terms of regulating the procedure of cultural heritage digitisation and establishing a common information system. Finally, it identifies current challenges in archaeological data management in cultural heritage institutions and briefly discusses possible future scenarios.

AB - Horreum Margi is situated in the middle of Morava valley, on the right bank of
the Velika Morava. Modern day Ćuprija is located on the remains of this very important
Roman fort.
The geo-strategic position of Horreum Margi determined its development and
destiny. It was established in the middle of the Roman province of Upper Moesia (Moesia
Superior), that included the central part of the Balkan peninsula. It shared its borders
with the province Pannonia to the north, Dacia and Lower Moesia (Moesia Inferior)
in the east, Macedonia in the south and Dalmatia in the west. However, its position becomes
even more relevant when two important axes of communication are considered:
the fluvial one, along the river Velika Morava (Margus) and another on land, known as
Via militaris. The Roman military road reached the Upper Moesia from the north, from
Pannonia and led via the two legionary camps on the Limes, Singidunum and Viminacium.
Further on, it ran towards Horreum Margi and continued towards the south, i.e. Naissus.
One of the most important crossroads of the Roman Empire was situated in Naissus,
that connected the Danubian Limes to the north with Bosporus to the east, the Aegean
Sea to the south and the Adriatic Sea to the west. Horreum Margi was also an important
connection between the cities on the Danubian limes of the Upper Moesia that developed
around the legionary camps Singidunum (camp of the legion IIII Flavia) and Viminacium
(camp of the legion VII Claudia), further on Margum on the mouth of the river Velika
Morava into the Danube and the economic centers inland the province, such as Naissus,
Ulpiana and Scupi.

Srpska arheologija u digitalnom dobu - trenutno stanje

AB - In 2006, upon the remains of the Roman city and legionary fortress of Viminacium, the Viminacium
Archaeological Park was established. Since it was the first archaeological park in Serbia providing visitors with necessary facilities, the team of researchers faced a lot of newly emerged challenges, commonly described with the term “cultural heritage management”. In the last decade, excavations and physical protection of the ancient monuments were gradually joined by their presentation and promotion, considered equally important processes for the overall protection of Viminacium significance. All the efforts led to an increased public awareness of the cultural importance of this ancient city, which has been indicated by the ever-growing number of visitors from all over the world, but also with the engagement of the members of the local community as park employees, as well as consumers of cultural heritage who actively participate in the promotion of Viminacium. Today, local authorities and touristic organizations realize that they have to offer something internationally recognized in their own region, being proud as a part of the global community sharing global heritage.

AB - The former Roman city and legionary
fort Viminacium is situated at the right
Danube bank, in the territory of villages Stari
Kostolac and Drmno, 15 km from Požarevac.
Viminacium was the capital of the Roman
province Upper Moesia (Moesia Superior), which
became a colony during the 3rd century A.D.
During the 1980s, parts of the southern cemeteries
of Viminacium were excavated. A section of it was
named “Kod Bresta” and it was excavated from
1985 to 1992. During that period, 75 graves
were excavated, both inhumation and cremation
graves. Among the discovered grave-goods, there
were 107 oil-lamps, one of them made of bronze
and the rest made of clay. Five moulds for lamp
production were discovered as well.

fort Viminacium is situated at the right
Danube bank, in the territory of villages Stari
Kostolac and Drmno, 15 km from Požarevac.
Viminacium was the capital of the Roman
province Upper Moesia (Moesia Superior), which
became a colony during the 3rd century A.D.
During the 1980s, parts of the southern cemeteries
of Viminacium were excavated. A section of it was
named “Kod Bresta” and it was excavated from
1985 to 1992. During that period, 75 graves
were excavated, both inhumation and cremation
graves. Among the discovered grave-goods, there
were 107 oil-lamps, one of them made of bronze
and the rest made of clay. Five moulds for lamp
production were discovered as well.",

AB - Archaeological exploration of the Roman town of Horreum Margi began in 1861, when Felix Kanitz saw and made sketches of the Roman fort of Ćuprija, at the mouth of the river Ravanica into Morava1. (Map) In his work Краљевина Србија from 1904, he enthusiastically repeats the description of the multi-layer Ćuprija fort2. For decades after Kanitz’s description of the Roman fort in Ćuprija, according to historical sources identified as Horreum Margi3, there was no interest in this archaeological site. One of the reasons is surely its position in the very centre of the modern settlement of Ćuprija, under the modern military base and arsenal, and later military equestrian school. Horreum Margi is only mentioned as a finding place of different epigraphic monuments in the papers written by М. Valtrović, N. Vulić and others.
